DODGE Diesels - Cummins 12v and 24v Forum / Re: My truck can’t control itself!

Words of wisdom. If you add more fuel and air, you will be adding more heat to the Cummins. The result of this will be:

Broken Ears on Exhaust Manifold of the Head
My Cummins had almost all of the ears cracked. What worried me was getting exhaust gasses in the cab of the truck, and unknowingly poisoning my family.

Killer Dowel Pin aka KDP

2nd Gen Cummins powered Dodges suffer from a gear case dowel alignment pin working lose. This pin either destroys primary gear, taking the engine out with it, or the pin gets ejected into the case, cracking or poking a hole in it. If you're lucky it just ends up in the oil pan.

I wasn't lucky, and the timing gear case cracked, and has been leaking oil like a sieve.

All those extra ponies you get with injectors and turbo also increase EGT's. I have had a hard time maintaining EGT's when driving in the moutains in hot weather. Towing up the mountains was a no go. A cam is a good step toward keeping things cool, as well as a cold intake, and larger diameter non restrictive exhaust.

The good news is my Truck surrounding a Cummins is in LeftCoastDiesel's good hands.

It really can’t.  :o

This 12 valve is a poster child for what happens with a KDP.

But all of this is about to change.  8)

My name is Ryan, from Oakdale. Ive been in love with diesels since I was a kid working on the family ranch, from tractors to pickups to big rigs.  My first truck was an '03 6.0 powerstroke with a banks six gun tuner and intake (loved it until it blew a head gasket) I had an 08 duramax and loved it but couldn't pass smog since everything was deleted and gone so I sold it.  Just recently sold my 95 powerstroke, looking to get a first gen cummins with the intercooler.  I also have a ranch truck that was my grandpa's, a 1985 f-250 with a '94 7.3 idi with a banks sidewinder turbo in it. I am not brand loyal and love all diesels!

Welcome aboard Ryan!

There were bots that took over a bunch of forums(more than Vbulletin) a few years ago. Since then, most forums have dried up by a huge margin.

I do have one suggestion: Have a facebook page that highlights and links back to this page. It will naturally draw locals in.

Oh, yeah. I'd neglected FB! Thanks for hollering back.

General Diesel Discussion Forum / Cleaning Up the forum

I just sent out an email newsletter with the content of "Testing, one, two, three". The purpose is to see what email addresses bounce. Once I have a list, I'll be pruning the user list on the forum. My humble apologies for deleting any accounts with bad email addresses. But the clean up must go on.

Up next, we're going to see if we can get what once was a great forum back to be being busy and full of up to date information.

Several years ago the forum had a horrible glitch that allowed a massive amount of bots to infiltrate, and to eventually start spamming. We killed off the vBulletin forum of that time, cleared out the spam bots, and ported over the content and users to an SMF forum. But the damage was done. A thriving community died.

So, what is the answer? I think it's simple, and that's for folks to start posting. Folks should invite their friends over to join the forum, and contribute.

Why contribute to this forum when there are so many others out there?  First reason I think is that we have tended to be region specific, Northern California, that is.

Second, the forum has had the focus of hot rodding, and seeing how much horsepower and torque we can coax out of our diesel beasts. It's also a great place to post problems and ask for help in finding solutions. Sooner or later we are all stumped by a problem. It's great of folks to answer questions, and give back to the community.

Also, one huge difference with the NorCal Diesel Forum is that there are no ads here. Zip, Zero, Nada.  I think this is an awesome thing.

Ideas? Answers? Questions? What do you folks want with a NorCal Diesel Forum?

Fire away.

Welcome aboard RV Daddy!

Hey Guys, RV Daddy here, new to this forum. I currently have a 1996 Ford F-250 4X4 that is soon to get a Cummin's 1st Gen transplant.
The Engine is in the works at the machine shop, and have been gathering all the parts needed to make this conversion as smooth as possible. I look forward to this project and will be asking for advice as well and documenting and posting photo's here, for your pleasure. This is going to be a really cool conversion,
Thanks,
RV Daddy
